New Girl Review
20th January 2012
The hit show ‘New Girl’ started on the 6th of January on Channel 4 and it has generated a lot of hype. The witty Zooey Deschanel who plays the role of ‘Jess’, (an ex-teacher who has recently broken up with her boyfriend) is brilliant in the role of a clingy, broken hearted ex who is not sure how to act around men or let go of the past. Her tomboy attitude and careless ways are constantly getting her into trouble with her new flat mates ‘Schmidt’ (Max Greenfield), ‘Nick’ (Jake M. Johnson) and ‘Winston’ (Lamorne Morris), who as the series progresses try to help Deschanel come to terms and move on from her ex-boyfriend. They also try, unsuccessfully, to calm her crazy personality and this adds some cleverly scripted humour as Deschanel fails to follow their advice. The character of Jess can sometimes be classed as annoying because her bubbly, out going personality causes her to spontaneously sing throughout the show. But don’t let this deter you! If you can look past the geeky, crazy character, then the Golden Globe nominated show is perfect for that quiet night in when chilling out on the sofa.
