Music Review: Ed Sheeran
19th May 2011
Listen in Ed Sheeran fans! Following on from his latest Radio one interview with the legendary Zane Lowe, the humble Ed Sheeran is finally getting his name known in the world of acoustic music that currently seems to be dominating the ‘indie’ scene.
Putting acoustic guitar to lyrics sung as rap (yes – ‘sung as rap’) is not a new phenomenon; Newton Faulkner, Jack Peñate are stylistically similar. But take these two, meet them somewhere in the middle and add less innocent lyrics that have been put in a typically English way: a way in which you can listen to this artist with a forgiving smile as you dance, foot-tap and enjoy his brand new, officially-released single, ‘A-Team’.
So for those of you who are able to show off to your friends by playing some of his tremendously high-speed tracks on your beat-up guitars already…kudos! But if this is the first you’ve heard of Ed Sheeran, then – as Zane Lowe orders – “remember his name!” because although his breakthrough has been delayed, there’s no doubt that you will be kicking yourself that you didn’t discover him sooner.
