The Christmas period is coming to an end. With all those mince pies, chocolates, and Christmas dinners eaten over the festive period it’s now everybody’s new year’s resolution to eat healthily. Here are a few tips to help you battle the ‘Santa belly’:
1. It’s no surprise to find out that dietary control and exercise are the basics to healthy weight loss. So swap that chocolate bar for something more healthy and nutritious, like a piece of fruit.
2. Alcohol is jam packed with calories. A holiday tipple can have up to 500+ calories. So, think wisely and drink less.
3. You may decide to join the gym but realistically are you going to attend? 1 hour of vacuuming can burn up to 300 calories. So get the cleaning products out!
4. It has been proven that eating smaller and more frequent meals help to balance your calorie intake. It helps maintain your blood sugar level leaving you feeling fuller for longer.
5. Don’t cut out treats all together, including small-moderated ones into your diet is rewarding and won’t leave you deprived of your favourite indulgencies.
6. Try to drink 8 Glasses of water a day. It will hydrate your body and skin as well as keep you fuller.
7. Understand your food labels. Just because a product claims to be ‘fat free’ doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s good for your diet. Check the labels carefully and eat a range of proteins, carbohydrates and a little fat.
8. Remember your ‘5-a-day’. Fruit and vegetables fill your stomach up quicker and are also low in calories. So eat up!
9. Plan your diet. Set your self personal targets, this will also allow you to monitor your progress and track how well you are doing.
10. Remember lose weight slowly. An average healthy weight loss is 1-2 pounds a week; do not strive to lose much more than this. It is important to understand that quick weight loss is often the result of water and muscle, not fat. So a steady weight loss is more beneficial for your overall goal.
