Week 8

7th December 2009

And then there were four. You heard it right, after weeks of hanging on, the public finally let go of Lloyd Daniels, the 16 year-old Welshman. Following weeks of harsh criticism, particularly from Louis, it was Lloyd’s final hour, as the public vote determined.

As Simon dramatically put it, “You’ve got to have fire in your eyes” but Lloyd clearly didn’t, sticking out as the least talented of the bunch. Following his elimination, Cheryll said “He is only 16 - he has got loads of time to blossom into a real star." This leaves Cheryll with only one act left now – Joe Mceldry, who is now favourite to win.

The usual dose of catfights from the judges featured this week from Cheryll and Louis. After Lloyd’s mediocre performance of I’m still standing, Louis critiqued him once more: "You're just about standing... it was a little karaoke for me". As you would expect, this lead Cheryll to snap back, "But you haven't got anyone standing, Louis” which invited cheers and laughter from the crowd.

As ever, the results show provided the live talents of big stars, with this week offering Alicia Keys and Rihanna. Following a mimed performance of I don’t feel like dancing from the live finalists, and a melody of Keys’s big hits, Alicia told Dermot O’Leary, "I want to leave it to y'all to choose" when asked who her favourite contestant was. Next weeks line up is bigger than ever as we welcome Janet Jackson and the new queen of pop, Lady Gaga.

Lloyd seems to be keeping (or appearing) positive since being voted off the hit talent show, saying on yesterday’s This Morning, “The tour will be awesome, I’m really excited. The next few weeks are going to be crazy.”

Lloyd spoke of his close relationship with mentor Cheryl Cole, despite allegations the South Shields singer Joe McElderry was the Geordie judge’s favourite. Despite this, Lloyd is still backing Joe - “Joe is vocally amazing, he is pitch perfect all the time. I think he deserves to win. I hope he wins.”

So who’s your favourite of the remaining acts? … Stacey (possibly the funniest girl ever), Danyl (I still can’t decide if I like him), Joe (a surprisingly big voice for such as small guy), and of course Olly (the man who refuses to undo his polo shirt top buttons)! As ever, I’m backing Stacey but with this year’s competition there’s no knowing who will be crowned the nation’s favourite – it’s anyone’s game! (except Lloyd’s).
