X Factor Week 6

22nd November 2009

What a week! What with afro-Jamie leaving us, Jedward managing to scrape by once again and Calvin Harris running on stage with a pineapple on his head, we can safely say that X Factor’s week 6 has delivered once again.

Starting with Saturday’s show, Simon opened the night with the usual dramatic sentence – this weeks being, “Not the best week I’ve had in my life, but it’s show time”. And showtime it was with Stacey’s big ballad which even managed to squeeze a compliment from Cowell – “By a mile, the best performance of the night”. Stacey is our favourite to win here at The Voice, and if her goofy, lovable personality is not enough to get her through, then her voice sure will be.

After watching Daniel’s rendition of We are the Champions (there’s a surprising song for our Mr Cocky), we’re still on the fence on whether we hate him or love him. Half the fun is just pulling these wannabe’s apart, even if it does result in Daniel’s irritating puppy face. We need another week for confirmation, but I think the ‘we hate Daniel’ movement is dying down as the public sees a more humbled and likeable Daniel emerge.

But the most prominent act of the night was as always, the twins. I hate to say it but I did slightly enjoy their song this week, although I do have to put it down to the great song choice (‘under pressure’) as opposed to their input. The performance was well received with chants of ‘Jedward’ from the audiendce, whilst Louis proved his utter lack of hearing ability by calling it “Aut’entic”! Now I’m not sure whether anyone actually saw Calvin Harris ambush their performance. It seemed to happen only when we all re-watched it on youtube, but nobody appeared to realise it when watching it on Saturday night.

Interestingly, when questioned on the Chris Moyles Show (Radio 1), Harris said: ''I was just inspired to make a mockery of the show. Because it is a music competition, it is a joke and I think it should be treated as such, so when people were saying 'John and Edward, maybe they deserve to stay in this week', I was like 'are you watching what I'm watching? It's terrible, it's terrible... For the greater good of the nation I wanted to go out there and make an idiot of myself and sort of just bring the whole show into another kind of area in which it's treated as kind of a joke.''

Later in the show, the UK dance chart topper said that he was even considering auctioning the pineapple on ebay, and donating the proceeds to charity, but then considered that this is “maybe taking it a bit too far”.

Sunday’s show welcomed Shakira for a live performance of her new single, ‘Did it Again’ where she showed us her singing, dancing and hips! X Factor has gone all out this season with live acts including Alexandra Burke, Whitney Housten, Robbie Williams, Cheryl Cole, Westlife, JLS and Leona Lewis to name a few. US stars such as Rihanna and Madonna have been also been confirmed to perform in the coming weeks.

As we all know, Jamie Archer was sent home after a dramatic showdown between himself and Lloyd Daniels that night. Neither of them were going to win the show, and it’s only a matter of time before Lloyd’s luck runs out despite having a good week. So, did the right act go home? Probably not, but that’s not the point! We mustn’t forget the show is about entertainment, not talent! Until next week…
