Hereford College Hammer Worcester in Basketball Cup Match

15th January 2009

Team: Hereford Sixth Form Boys Basketball Team
Opposition: Worcester Technical College
Date: 7th January
Match:  British Colleges Regional Cup Quarter Final
Hereford top scorer: Davis Vaivods – 26 points
Hereford player of the match: Jade Ibanez

Hereford arrived at Worcester College knowing a victory would take them through to the final of the British Colleges Regional Cup. The boys dealt with the pressure remarkably well and produced a superb performance to dismiss Worcester 77-25.

Dominant from the tip off, Hereford barely missed a basket and were quickly able to relax, but still not allowing Worcester to get a foothold on the game.

Notable performances came from Davis Vaivods who was the top scorer with an amazing 26 points. He utilised his height brilliantly and simply couldn’t miss, scoring on almost every opportunity. Adam Bagley was the second highest scorer with 19 points and played exceptionally: both on offence and defence. However, the stand out performance must go to Jade Ibanez who started almost every attack and was the joint third highest scorer. His performance was capped off perfectly when he scored an exceptional basket, jumping high into the air and throwing the ball backwards into the basket. Hereford played superbly and with one more victory will be in the Regional Cup final!
